Soles4Souls, the Shoe Charity, to Hold Celebration in Jacksonville for Teenager Walking Barefoot Across America
Several current and former Jacksonville Jaguars will sign autographs & hand out shoes to homeless, with support from Shoe Carnival and First Baptist Church Jacksonville
-- Teenager Dashiel Alsup is nearing the end of his epic barefoot hike across America for shoe charity Soles4Souls, a non-profit dedicated to providing free shoes to those in need. By the time he steps into the Atlantic Ocean on Monday, Dash will have logged nearly 3,500 miles -- mostly barefoot -- to raise funds and awareness for Soles4Souls.
Elsey and his staff are honoring Dash’s contribution by hosting a celebration at footwear retailer Shoe Carnival (9822 Atlantic Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32225). Jacksonville Jaguars defensive end, Quentin Groves, will be signing autographs for the general public at the store, starting at 9:30am. Shoe Carnival has long been a champion of Soles4Souls, and is again lending their support for this event. They are collecting cash donations for the charity at 10 retail locations in Jacksonville, Orlando and Savannah, GA.
Soles4Souls and Shoe Carnival have partnered in a unique fundraising program that will raise much needed funds for new shoes for those people hurting around the world. For a small donation of $2.00, one of the 300 million children around the world without shoes will receive their first pair of shoes.
At 11:00am, the group will walk to Hemming Plaza where they will distribute new shoes to the homeless. First Baptist Church of Jacksonville has coordinated with local homeless shelters and other charities to make this distribution possible. Elsey and Dash will also be speaking at First Baptist Church to highlight the charity’s programs and talk about Dash’s barefoot journey.
There is no cost or requirement to attend the event, but the general public is encouraged to come and learn more about the charity and meet Dash.
Dash keeps a blog of his travels at asinglepebble.blogspot.com.
