Z-CoiL Footwear Stores Nationwide Collect Tons of Shoes
(Albuquerque, NM - February 1, 2010) – Z-CoiL® shoe stores around the country immediately sprang into action following the devastating earthquake in Haiti, partnering with Soles4Souls (www.giveshoes.org) to collect new and gently-worn shoes for hundreds of thousands of people in need. The results have been staggering, and demonstrate how a company whose mission is to help people in pain has taken that concept to a whole new level.
In Austin, TX
“The last weekend of our ‘Project Haiti’ shoe drive has been overwhelming,” report Total Relief Footwear owners Cam White and Celia Tellez. “After shipping 6,000 pounds last Wednesday, we have been flooded with last-minute shoe drives arriving at the store. School systems, churches and corporations delivered thousands of pairs of shoes yesterday. We are rapidly approaching 10 tons of shoes being delivered to Soles4Souls as we wrap up the drive!”
In Millersville, MD
Another example of a community pulling together to help: after watching the coverage of the disaster in Haiti, 12-year-old Raquel Ramos took it upon herself to organize a shoe drive at her Sacred Heart School in Glyndon, MD. In just one week the school collected 2,580 pairs of shoes that they delivered to the Z-CoiL® store in Millersville, MD. A local moving company, Suddath Relocation Systems, then volunteered to ship the shoes from Z-CoiL to Soles4Souls free of charge.
In Piqua, OH
Volunteers young and old have helped sort, box and load over 2,000 pounds of donated shoes at the Z-CoiL Pain Relief Footwear store in Piqua, OH. Donated work gloves (and even a stuffed animal) were tucked inside many of the work boots, while local businesses provided much-needed boxes and pallets.
In Albuquerque, NM
When the original Z-CoiL corporate store in Albuquerque sent out an appeal to its customers and the community at large, people came in droves to drop off over 2,000 pairs of gently-worn shoes, over and above the 1,500 pairs of Z-CoiL shoes donated by the Z-CoiL Footwear company. Donors also had an opportunity to meet the Soles4Souls RV that made a special stop at the store on January 21st on its cross-country tour.
