Green Day's Mike Dirnt Donates Footwear Royalties to Shoe Charity
GREEN DAY BASSIST MIKE DIRNT DONATES HIS MACBETH FOOTWEAR ROYALTIES TO SOLES4SOULS FOR HAITIAN RELIEF EFFORTS
Carlsbad, Calif./Nashville, Tenn. – February 25, 2010 – Green Day Bassist Mike Dirnt announced Monday that he will donate the royalty proceeds of his Macbeth Footwear collaboration to Soles4Souls, the international shoe charity, to help aid the earthquake relief efforts in Haiti. Soles4Souls has committed more than 1.3 million pairs of shoes to the devastated area.
Macbeth Footwear introduced Mike Dirnt to Soles4Souls shortly after the brand first aligned with the charity organization and donated over 1,000 pairs of shoes. When the events in Haiti brought to light the need for shoes in the ravaged area, Dirnt contacted Macbeth about donating the royalties of his Macbeth Studio Project shoes, totaling $10,000, directly to Haitian relief efforts.
“Our mission to bring hope to the people of Haiti is well underway,” said Wayne Elsey, Founder and CEO of Soles4Souls. “With the help of our friends at Macbeth and Mike Dirnt, Haitians can begin to rebuild their lives and look forward to a brighter day.”
“I am so happy to have the opportunity to work with the good people at Soles4Souls and Macbeth on this charitable initiative,” said Mike Dirnt. “We hope that our donation can help, even if only in a small way, to make a difference in the lives of some of those who have been devastated by this horrendous disaster in Haiti.”
“Introducing Mike Dirnt to a great organization like Soles4Soles was a win-win for everyone involved,” said Lisa Clifford, Marketing Director for Macbeth Footwear. His generous donation will help significantly in their relief efforts in Haiti.”
Soles4Souls has partnered with other organizations on the ground in Haiti to transport and distribute the aid. More than 100,000 pairs of shoes, including work boots, rain boots, children’s athletic shoes and clothing items, have already been distributed in Haiti. The shoe charity announced it will continue to send shoes to the region throughout 2010 as part of their sustainable efforts to help Haiti in the rebuilding efforts.
About Macbeth:

With rock music as their muse, DeLonge and Humphrey assembled a team of talented individuals to develop fashion-forward products that were inspired by the music scene and the action sports lifestyle of Southern California that they grew up in. Since 2002, Macbeth has been at the forefront of collaborative efforts with musicians, athletes and artists, creating a blended culture of products for everyday people.
