Troops 964 and 1499 of Gainesville’s Girl Scout Gateway Council
ANNOUNCES SHOE DRIVE TO BENEFIT SOLES4SOULS
Gainesville, Florida, – March 15, 2010 – Shoe Drive for Haiti KICKS Off.
Alachua County residents are invited to donate their NEW or “gently worn” shoes for people in need in Haiti from March 15 to April 15.
Where:
- The Girl Scout Office on 8th from March 15 to April 14, and
- Chick-fil-A on Archer Road. ONLY ON April 15, 2010, from 5 -8pm for a Grand Finale Event!
Every 9 seconds, Soles4Souls, Inc. gives away another pair of shoes to someone in need. The shoe charity has earned glowing endorsements from Hollywood stars and professional athletes, but the people that truly make the non-profit organization effective are those who clean out their closets to personally drop off their “gently worn” shoes at a participating location. For a limited time, Soles4Souls and Brownie Troop 964 and Junior Troop 1499 of Kanapaha Service Unit,
Girl Scouts of Gateway Council (352) 316-5178, will be collecting your new or gently worn footwear to donate to the people of Haiti.
“We know that the people of Gainesville will 'STEP UP' and get behind our call for action to help Haitians” Rebecca Schol, Troop Leader, said. “We can use the shoes taking up space in your closet to change the world one pair at a time.” “It seems like a small gift but one pair of shoes can greatly improve someone’s life”. Jenna Savage, Troop Service Project Chair, said.
It is estimated that Americans have 1.5 billion pairs of unused shoes lying in their closets. The charity can use each and every one of these pairs to make a tangible difference in someone's life.
The Girl Scouts will have a collection box located at their 810 NW 8th Street, Gainesville, Fl 32601 LOCATION from March 15 to April 14.
ON APRIL 15, 2010, Chick-fil-A on Archer Road in Gainesville will hold a Grand Finale Event to fill a bin with Shoes! This event will start at 5pm and end at 8pm. Chick-fil-A will assist with a donation from the events’ proceeds to help support shipping costs to the Soles4Souls distribution center. Share your SOUL and showing your support at the Chick-fil-A event or take action today and drop off a pair at the Girl Scout Office.
